Archie Battersbee: Parents lose appeal over life support

The parents of a 12-year old boy lost their petition for permission to take the life support away from their son. The Royal London Hospital believes the child is brain-dead. The Appeal judges decided that they agreed with the judgment to end his life support from the High Court. Archie's mother, Hollie Dance, believes Archie passed out because of a dangerous internet challenge. Archie has not regained consciousness since Dance found him. The court responded with a no. Ms Dance, whose son was murdered, says she thinks judges were insensitive in their decisions to lower the age of criminal responsibility. One of the family's lawyers suggested they will apply to have the judge take another look at the case. The latest High Court judgement on arbitration agreements might be different than this. Archie needed surgery, but the hospital refused to provide it. A decision was made to bring the case to court, and determine whether the surgery should be performed. Previously, a judge ruled that his parents could not continue treatment while he had a beating heart. The Supreme Court has affirmed the previous ruling by Mr. Justice Hayden in the High Court. Their son, Archie is lifeless and may never wake up. Doctors use machines to keep his body alive for this reason.
